Description
This is an original watercolor painting by the celebrated artist Alice Beek. Rich with realistic earth tones, this painting masterfully portrays simple country life by its use of neutralized browns and greens. It has a mellow and calm effect creating an unusual sense of serenity. Beek’s expert control of watercolor is exhibited in the way she cleverly allows color to blend where soft edges are needed and crisp edges to create contrast. This expensive frame is a unique, ornate, bronze finished wood frame that reflects the rich colors of the painting. Pleasingly double matted with sponged brown and black mats. The painting is a great buy and in excellent condition. Total size is 12 1/2" x 14".
Alice Beek was a native of Providence, Rhode Island, she began study of Art while still a child , under the direction of her mother, later as a student at the Wheeler Art School, her progress was so rapid that it was decided that she would receive private instruction from Sydney R. Burleigh, the great American watercolorist. She then studied for six years in Paris at several famous academies, under such renowned masters as Puvis de Chavanne L' Hermitte Delecluse Lezar , T. Robert- Fluery and Edward Ertz, the distinguished watercolorist. She painted in many countries, and her work has been displayed in many principal exhibitions in Europe. In 1897 Alice Beek was awarded the Grand Prix by the French Government for her accomplishments in art.
